Work begins on Little Tamers
Work has begun on Little Tamers, the first strand in the Isharat series: a two-part course for children aged 5 to 7 that brings together confident use of the mouse and keyboard and the computational thinking which grows out of it.
Work has begun on Little Tamers, the first strand in the Isharat series. It is a two-part course for children aged 5 to 7: the Kindergarten and Early Childhood years, and the first two years of primary school — Years 1–2, Key Stage 1 in the British system.
The idea behind the strand is to bring two levels together. The first is the elementary skill: confident use of the mouse and the keyboard. The second is the foundation of computational thinking and information literacy that grows out of that skill. Neither works without the other — skill without thinking stays mechanical, and thinking without skill has nothing to stand on.
It is built on current research: on the one hand into keeping a child safe at the computer, on the other into the cognitive development of pre-school children as they work at one. Our aim is the greatest benefit with the computer’s harmful effects reduced to a minimum.
Little Tamers is being prepared in English and Arabic. Other languages are under consideration.
